The Void Studio was founded in 1995 by Pieter Kloos (aka
Pidah).
I started mixing bands (live) in 1985, and soon after got interested in recording.
Besides a lot of live mixing, I was recording here and there, and needed a
place of my own to record and mix.
It started modestly with 8 tracks and 16 channels, but
after a while the studio became quite popular, which allowed me to buy better
equipment.
Due to getting more and more experience the recordings got better too. That
obviously really helped popularity along, and even better tools were aquired.
In the meantime I became f.o.h. soundengineer for Norwegian rockband 'Motorpsycho',
and that helped
getting clients for the studio too. Yep, even better tools were purchased,
etc. (where will it end...).
I record/mix a lot of so called heavy rock, but also like to record acoustic
music, and I am not scared of rockabilly, punk, jazz, funk, reggae, pop, disco,
metal, etc. etc.
I can be engineer, producer or a combination of these.
The Void is a playground for musicians, anything goes!
Analog and digital recording and/or mixing, or combinations of these are possible.
These days a lot of
mix work also comes from home studio's, I'm fine with that. The last few years
a number of bands asked for/about mastering, so that's a service that's also
provided.
Analog recording is done with a Studer A820 2 inch 24 track machine. Digital
recording is with Nuendo. Other formats can be taken care of. Mixdown is through
a
Studer 900 and a MCI 500 console, giving 56 channels in mixdown. Preamps of
both consoles are used alongside
the outboard preamps whilst recording.
Although the recording room isn't too big, it has proven
to sound nice, even with a full blown rock-band playing at concert level.
However with a double-bass, mandoline and acoustic guitar it works nicely
as well. The room has a "dead" part and an "alive" part.
All maintenance is done in-house, to insure the studio's steady operation
and quick repair, so if your amp breaks during recording, I can fix it (if
u want that, that is...). There's also a good supply of backline that you
can use free of charge.
Location recording is also possible, with a choice of 24 tracks of digital
(HD24) or 4 tracks of analog (1/2 inch 4 track Studer 807).
If you desperately need a certain piece of equipment I don't have, it might
be for rent, just ask.
Coffea and tea are free of charge, anything else you'll have to supply yourself
(shops around the corner!).
There 9 restaurants at walking distance, good food, some of them. Free overnight
stays for up to 5 people can be arranged, please request in advance!
I speak Dutch, English and German, which could be convenient for some people,
but won't make your record sound better...
